Err: Connection timed out [110] Am I busy? Of course not.

Am I busy? Of course not.

I have started doing something new and very interesting. Everytime someone asks if I am busy, regardless of what is happening in my life, I say that I am not.

I used to believe that it was a good thing to be busy. I blame all of you for that belief. You keep telling me and each other a variation of “It’s good to be busy”. Why do you say that? Who came up with that? It’s actually terrible to be busy. You lose sight of almost everything. You dismiss so many important things. You become unfocused. You reach an unproductive state of stress. By unproductive, I don’t mean that you get nothing done, because you do get a lot done, except that everything you do is just terrible.

3, 2, 1, action!

Why would I want to be busy? To get money to buy food. That’s it. That’s the only good reason to be busy. Being busy is quite boring. That second paragraph is quite boring. What is so great about losing sight? What is so great about becoming unfocused? What is so great about dismissing important things? What is so great about not spending time with family and friends? What is so great about sleep deprivation?

If you ever think I am busy, don’t tell me variations of “It’s good to be busy”, offer help, that’s more valuable in every way.

To all busy people out there, seek help. Take a load off yourselves and give tasks to others. In fact, you will find that many tasks don’t even need to be done. It isn’t just that they don’t need to be done, they don’t even need to exist.

What will you do with your newly found time and perhaps even freedom? Enjoy the sun, go to the gym, play a sport, take some tai chi courses, learn to cook, read novels and cooking books, spend time with your family, boyfriend, girlfriend and friends, go out and have a drink, take a walk, practice photography, sleep better, learn a new skill, play music, fabricate a hand-made gift, take the time to add to this list whatever you want.

Ironically, pursuing anything in that list will make you “busy” except that you won’t call it that. Maybe you already do some of these things; these actions take your time and yet, you don’t call it being busy.

Find someone to help you, a friend, a family member, even a stranger. Being busy sucks.
