Movie Review: Iron Man 2 (2010)

Possible spoilers in this review. You’ve been warned.

In the first movie, we witnessed Tony Stark become Iron Man after being captured. At the end of the movie, he reveals to the world who he really is and Nick Fury wants to talk to him about the Avengers Initiative.

Iron Man 2 essentially picks up where the last movie left off. Peace reigns around the world. However, we know how the world works. When you’re good at something, someone is always out there to get you, so the US government wants the armor and of course, there is a brand new big bad villain: Ivan Vanko aka Whiplash. We also get to meet Justin Hammer, a rich businessman, rival of Tony, who enables Vanko.

Tony Stark and his armorsIron Man 2 definitely stepped up from the first movie. The actors have embraced their roles and the characters are adjusting to the situation. They all have great chemistry together. Action, comedy and drama are all on the menu. In fact, you get all three in the fight between Iron Man and War Machine.

The final battle is much more satisfying than the one in the first movie. Flight, explosions, energy blasts and fist fights are all there. Let’s not forget about saving kids and damsels in distress.

Good

  • Suits and technology
  • Robert Dowry Jr.
  • Don Cheadle
  • Character evolution
  • Sound effects

Bad

  • Nick Fury ~ I found him to be underdeveloped. Maybe something bigger has been reserved for him in the future?

Overall, Iron Man 2 is certainly a cool movie to watch in theater. Despite many opinions that it contains a lot crammed into two hours, this movie offers a great rhythm that can be enjoyed by everyone.

“I didn’t give him the Iron Man armor, he took it.”
